Hundreds turn out for inaugural SML Cardboard Boat Regatta - Norm Sells Roanoke & Beyond - REALTORS®
Thanks to everyone who joined us this weekend for the SML Cardboard Boat Regatta and Picnic Jamboree Concert up at the W.E. Skelton 4-H center. It was two days filled with fun, live music, good food and drink, all to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Smith Mountain Lake. Friday, we enjoyed live music by The Quebe Sisters out of Texas and local act Low Low Chariot. We had our pick of fare from The Lick BBQ & Company, Creole That Food Truck and Viva la Cupcake. Danville Distribution helped us out both days with beer from Sunken City, Chaos Mountain, Soaring Ridge, Bold Rock and Budweiser. Saturday’s racing teams were full of heart for the big event. They hit the water in vessels made completely of cardboard, every one of which was a masterpiece. The crowd cheered the teams around the point during every match-up, while having lunch sponsored by Lionberger Construction. Our photo booth and cotton candy were a hit, and the Icees really hit the spot on such a warm day. Congratulations to all the winners and participants. Everyone did a super job constructing their boats, showing team spirit and keeping it competitive but fun. Also, a big hand goes to all the volunteers who directed traffic, shuttled people around, sold tickets, helped out the racing teams and just generally made sure everyone had a good time. Burchett, Dickinson, Payne & Associates of MKB, REALTORS was happy to sponsor this event in celebration of Smith Mountain Lake’s 50th anniversary and hope everyone had a good time. Other sponsors included Eye Care & Surgery, Big Lick Entertainment, WDBJ7, Corrugated Container, Steidle Law Firm and WSLC-94.9 Star Country. [Photography by Erica Yoon.]
