It’ll be a great time this weekend at Smith Mountain Lake - Norm Sells Roanoke & Beyond - REALTORS®
Head up to Smith Mountain Lake this weekend for a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the lake. The W.E. Skelton 4-H center will host the Smith Mountain Lake Cardboard Boat Regatta & Picnic Jamboree, and Burchett, Dickinson, Payne & Associates is pleased to be the title sponsor. The festivities begin this Friday. Come up at 5 p.m. to see the cardboard boats that have been registered for Saturday’s race. Teams have been working hard to put the finishing touches on all their (hopefully) lake-worthy vessels, and we can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with. The Picnic Jamboree Concert begins Friday at 7 p.m., featuring The Quebe Sisters, an award-winning trio of Texas fiddle players, and local favorites, The Low Low Chariot. Bring something to sit on and plan to get dinner from one of the food trucks on site. All sorts of fare will be available from Creole That, The Lick BBQ & Company, Two Roosters Kettle Corn and Viva La Cupcake. Craft beer will be available from Sunken City Brewing Company, Chaos Mountain Brewing and Bold Rock Hard Cider. Admission on Friday is $10. Kids 12 and under get in free. Saturday’s fun is free! Volunteers will begin checking in boats at 9 a.m., and the qualifying heats will start at 11 a.m. with final heats at 2 p.m. While you’re there, be sure to get your keepsake photo taken in our photo booth. We’ll also have cotton candy and an Icee machine, so stop by to get a sweet treat to help you stay cool. Other sponsors of the event include Eye Care & Surgery, Steidle Law Firm, Danville Distribution, Corrugated Container Corporation, Budweiser, Big Lick Entertainment, WDBJ7 and WSLC Star Country. What better way to celebrate Smith Mountain Lake? We hope you’ll come join us! [Get more details on the Skelton’s center website and join the Facebook event for updates.]
